Owner of Basalt Moms for Moms™
“Its about being part of the community- being involved and connected and able to make a difference in the lives of local moms. Its the feeling that, together, we can help make Basalt the best possible environment for our families and our children.”
I have been lucky enough to call this valley home for the last decade and a bit. I met my husband Marcus six months after arriving in Aspen and we quickly decided to make this mountain paradise our home together. We spent a number of years working and traveling and and then traveling some more. Making the move to the mid valley, we finally slowed down long enough to grow some roots. We were married at the majestic Maroon Bells in 2006 and welcomed the light of our lives, Cleo Sunday, to this world in January of 2011.
Having experienced life in the deep south, the midwest, the northeast, and few other stops in between, I feel so blessed to be able to raise our daughter in the charming small town of Basalt… with the cleanest air one could hope for, the ability to go days without getting in a car, friends we will always consider family surrounding us, and lucky us – grandparents too!… it really has become the perfect place to raise our family.
I strongly believe that having a connection to ones community is a key component to happiness and contentment. Having the opportunity to be be part of the Moms for Moms Communities and to offer the platform for local moms to support, connect with, and inspire one another is so fulfilling to me. I am incredibly excited for the future of this network and feel honored to be a part of it.
I recently received an email about a course taught at Stanford called the Mind Body connection. The last lecture discussed the relationship between stress and disease. It has been proven that “for a woman, one of the best things she could do for her health was to nurture her relationships with her girlfriends…women connect with each other differently (than men) and provide support systems that help each other to deal with stress and difficult life experiences… we share from our souls and this is just as important to our general health as jogging or working out at a gym.”
As a new mom I relate deeply to this concept. We are not sent home from the hospital with instruction manuals and I believe that nurturing relationships with girlfriends, sisters and moms will only prove to be more and more important as we navigate this incredible journey called motherhood.
